What’s Trending: Super Bowl XLIX — For Many, It’s All About the Ads

Between #deflategate and #snowmageddon2015, it’s been difficult for the average NFL fan to get psyched about Super Bowl XLIX unless, of course, you happen to be a fan of the New England Patriots or the Seattle Seahawks.

Fortunately, for the rest of us, the annual parade of Super Bowl ads can be just as entertaining, if not more so, than the big game itself. And, with many brands continuing the relatively new tradition of previewing and teasing their ads during the weeks-long pregame, we don’t need to wait until Sunday to get in on the #superbowlcommercials fun.

So which ads are creating the most buzz this year? According to AdWeek, you won’t want to miss these fan favorites:

Budweiser

Last year’s “Puppy Love” was Facebook’s most-shared ad of all time. This year, Budweiser’s emotional sequel, “Lost Dog,” finds the brewer’s iconic Clydesdales teaching a lost puppy the true meaning of friendship. Keep those tissues handy!

Mercedes-Benz USA

How does a Mercedes determine the modern-day victor of the classic “Tortoise and the Hare” race? The answer will be revealed in a 60-second spot during the 4th Quarter!

Snickers

Danny Trejo, best known for his portrayal of hyper-masculine characters, villains and anti-heroes, shows that the 70s are alive and well in a 30-second Brady Bunch-themed spot. The surprise twist? Trejo appears as Marcia Brady!

Nationwide

Comic actress Mindy Kaling goes “invisible” in this spot, showing what she would do over the course of a day if no one could see her. The point? To show that the insurance brand understands that consumers feel dissatisfied and invisible when it comes to how they’re treated by many companies.

Nissan

Fatherhood is trending this year, with several brands playing up the feel-good theme. After an 18-year absence from the Super bowl lineup, Nissan is hoping that its fatherhood-themed spot, featuring seven YouTube stars, will make the big brand statement it’s looking for to support several upcoming product launches.

So if you find yourself on the wrong end of your Super Bowl pool at half-time this year, don’t worry, you’re way ahead on the commercials!
