What’s Trending: Say “Thanks” on Veterans Day

Today our thoughts are with the many U.S. Veterans who fought for our freedom.  Many came home wounded and others are finding it difficult to make ends meet.  Two programs designed to help our veterans in need caught our attention: Heinz Ketchup’s “Our Turn To Serve” campaign celebrates veterans and raises awareness and money for Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that honors and empowers wounded warriors, while Economy Fuel’s “Heat For Heroes”campaign helps Connecticut-based veterans heat their homes.
Look for Heinz® Ketchup bottles featuring the “Our Turn To Serve” label in participating restaurants and retail stores nationwide. We spotted one in a local diner. You can use your smartphone, like we did, to scan a quick response (QR) code on the back of the Ketchup bottles and send a personalized “Thank You” card to a veteran. For every “Thank You” sent, Heinz will donate $1 to Wounded Warrior Project™, and for messages that are shared via Facebook or Twitter, Heinz will donate an additional 57 cents, up to $250,000 total (through July 1, 2013). So easy!
With temperatures dropping on the East Coast, here’s a way to help Connecticut-based veterans heat their homes.  Go to www.heatforheroes.com to nominate a deserving Connecticut veteran to win up to $1,500 of free home heating oil from Economy Fuel this winter. The winner will be announced on December 21st. You can also buy Heat For Heroes branded cammo merchandise, including t-shirts and caps, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the “Save our Vets” organization.
With cammo in style for men and women, we think these $20 t’s are a no-brainer!
